Safety Maturity Model
The Safety Maturity Model (SMM) was introduced to enabling comparable evaluation and learning across the organisation.
SMM sets the guardrails for managing HSE and calls out the ‘what’ without overprescribing the ‘how’, giving our operations flexibility and autonomy to demonstrate their maturity through existing routines, practices and programmes.

- Focus on mindsets and behaviours, building out quality through systems, symbols, behaviours and felt experience of the frontline.
- Introduce a ‘blueprint’ for managing safety, enabling comparable evaluation and learning across the company.
- Set the guardrails for leaders to manage safety without overprescribing the ‘how’, giving site flexibility and autonomy
